   INTENTIONS OF THE BOARD:

Kootenai County is committed to the control of noxious weeds, which are plant species not native to the area, and which have a potential to cause injury to public welfare, including, but not limited to, health, crops, livestock, land or other property along with degrading native flora and fauna habitats. As of 2014, 65 plant species have been designated as noxious weeds by Idaho law; several of which exist in Kootenai County. Noxious weeds cost Idaho landowners millions of dollars a year in crop losses and land degradation. It is the responsibility of each property owner to ensure that noxious weeds are controlled on their land. Kootenai County, along with participating agencies, utilizes integrated pest management (IPM) practices to control and contain noxious weeds on public property and rights of ways. The Noxious Weed Advisory Board, in conjunction with the Board of County Commissioners and the county Noxious Weed Control Department, coordinate noxious weed management.

GUIDELINES OF THE NOXIOUS WEED ADVISORY BOARD:

- The board of county commissioners shall appoint a county weed control advisory committee consisting of not less than five (5) members, who shall be knowledgeable of county noxious weeds and the damage done by such weeds.
- The members of the county weed control advisory committee shall be appointed for terms of two (2) years, and the appointments shall be staggered so that not more than three (3) members' terms may expire in any year.
- It shall be the duty and responsibility of the county weed control advisory committee to meet at least once in each calendar year to review and report on the status of the county noxious weed program. Also to act as a liaison to noxious weed boards of other counties, and provide a forum for public input on matters relating to the control of county noxious weeds. Advisory committees have no executive powers and act in an advisory capacity only.
